Horses are incredibly perceptive. They act in the moment to their environment, giving immediate and honest feedback to whatever, or whoever, is interacting with them. This makes working with horses therapeutically incredibly unique, where the client’s everyday experiences are transferred to the horse, the horse then gives the client feedback through its body language. This can bring a powerful awareness to the unconscious ways in which we communicate.
Sometimes people find room-based therapy difficult for a variety of reasons. If you have had a traumatic experience in your past or felt let down by others, then this can be a barrier to accessing therapy where building a relationship with another person for the therapy to be effective, seems insurmountable.
Equine therapy allows you to build a relationship with the horse, facilitated with a therapist who gently guides the session. You can share as much or as little as you want, of what you experience with the horse. You may wish to choose to keep what you discover about yourself just between you and the horse, or you may want to talk more about what is happening with the therapist. You get to decide what you share.
You do not need any previous experience with horses, and all work is ground based. You’ll be with a qualified therapist with experience with horses at all times.
